Hey, how are you all doing?

I know I have ghosted this platform for almost a month now. But, I had nothing I wanted to talk about in-depth. I made two drafts about movies that would suit, but I was so discouraged to write that I couldn't bring myself upto it.

I have nothing solid to talk about, but I will give it a go and here is a treat for you guys.

This blog (will be a retrospective analysis, well jokes aside), is me looking back at 2020 and noting the 20 most important moments that I have experienced, alongside some recommendations and 'Gyaan' of course. This blog will be divided into two sections since it has too many details to be included in just one. The first part is releasing today and the second will be released in the first week of January.

Let's start with number 20!

~2020, at a glance~

20. I got placed, that too in campus placement in only two attempts and yes, the virtual interviews boosted my confidence. Thanks to the support I had from my communication skills mentor, I got better at speaking in professional settings, emails, WhatsApp messages, etc. Though I would have had a huge exposure if this had been through real-time, I am glad that there was no 'GD' even though I have practised a lot because I know how biased that can be to the assertive yet kind people. There, mostly aggression wins. Anyway, such thoughts aside, this was a winning moment for me. Even though I don't usually sulk over my professional shortcomings, as I am confident I can do good somewhere. Yet, my attitude and circumstances with close people have always made me feel like 'I have accomplished so less'. I want to overcome that mentality, so even if it is in number 20, this is really important to me.

19. Moving on, this one is a bit tricky! I lost two friends again this year which is quite okay. However, since one was really close to me, which is why the way of parting really got onto me. Nevertheless, it has now proved really fruitful. I literally have 4 friends, out of which only 2 are my colleagues, which is perfectly fine. As long as my mental state is happy, I am okay having zero friends. {Well that is empowerment Aishwarya. (Haha)}

18. How can I not talk about books in my blogs. Well, I am not going to give a full review unless you guys are interested, down below I will be linking a video of my Goodreads booklist, which has covered the most important ones. I have read more than twelve books, which was actually my target and even if most were audiobooks, it is super awesome. Thanks to the pandemic, I got a lot of spare time! Fewer people, less distraction, more time to books!!

Here is the top five recommendation that would surely amaze your mind.

The stranger by Norman Whitney

A mystery with supernatural bits. I really enjoyed it as it was short and to the point.

Who will cry when you die by Robin Sharma

Well, how can I forget about the book that actually made me fall in love with non-fiction and write such a long review? I won't comment much on this one since I will be linking the complete review down below

Jane in search of a job by Agatha Christie

At this point, I have to say that I have started to enjoy mystery very much. If I have to summarize, this particular one would be 'be brave yet don't believe everything'.

The strange library by Haruki Murakami

This was a bit weird, as expected from the author. I want to read more of his work but not through the digital medium. I came across him first through 'Helly' via youtube.

We all should be feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

A recommendation from Helly is really a great read for every type of person, be it a male or female. I think it really talks about what feminism really looks like and what really is misogyny. The book is assertive yet soft-toned, which makes the impact even more huge.

17. I got to watch my bit of movies this year. I made it sort of a priority to watch some at least as I generally don't. That has given me exposure to wonderful cinematography and the good stories that were worth all the time.

I have five movies that made into the top list, even though I forgot most names. You can also check my lockdown post (whose link I will include below) for more recommendations on movies, podcasts, stories and songs.

Mahanati

This is a stellar performance by Keerthy Suresh, who is quite famous down South India. And if you watch the movie, it would be a lot easier for you to understand why. The story talks about a South Indian actress from the old cinema who made it big and yet somehow failed. The story is told in a promising way that makes you relate to the character even though you might have never known her. This is available in Prime, and of course, there are ways to grab it without the subscription, which I won't be advertising here.

Bulbbul and Mardaani 2

I actively watched a lot of female lead movies because that made more sense to me. Despite that, I think these two movies will be heart touching and beautiful to all kinds of audience. Bulbbul is Anushka Sharma's second attempt at supernatural horror combined with aspects around social taboos. The cinematography and story kill you, in all the right way. Mardaani 2, a Rani Mukherjee starer, made me watch the first part later on. Thanks to the antagonist played by Vishal Jethwa, Bollywood must be surprised at the wonderful debut. The former is available on Netflix, and the later is on Prime.

Over the moon

This is the only animated movie that I watched (my poor memory on stories' overload, remembers). It talks about letting go and moving forward in the most efficient way as possible. This is for those who are grieving or are in the process of healing. And, please don't be judgemental that an adult can't watch it.

Miss India

Another Keerthy Suresh starer. Actually, this one is the latest release. However, I have watched at least three of her top films where she has played the lead role, and I am sure I like her.

This movie is about an entrepreneur who wants to make it big and how accurate the representation of every guy trying on her is! JK! That was the most illogical part, rest assured the movie, and her confidence with perks that come with stubborn humans are worth it. Though the movie is a bit predictable, I think I did enjoy the time I gave it. This one is also available on Netflix. This movie gave me a gift I religiously used for a month that I will talk about in a bit (as shameful as it gets, I am using it rn as well). The movie is 2 hours, 16 minutes long, and I am sure it could have been short.

Instant Family and Wonder

Finally, a Hollywood recommendation! The 'Instant Family' gives you all the necessary emotional rollercoaster while ' Wonder' talks about how looks matter in this world, yet your heart gives you the correct perspective of life.

PS: I have not included the animes I have watched as I already made a post about it earlier this year.

16. Number 16 is about the sweet series I binged! (Yeah the poet in me smiles at you with all the rhyming)

Money Heist

Nairobi fan wants to tell you that this is way better than DARK. And I am not a fan of Tokyo.

Hi Bye, Mama

I have already talked about this earlier, but I won't fail to mention that this series one of the most emotional yet thought-provoking series I have ever watched. And it is a Korean show and can't forget how pretty the mum and kid looked.

Never have I ever

I have a separate review for this one as well.

Paava Kadhaigal

I used to be that kid who hated most Tamil movies and serials, but here I am recommending one. Watch with the subtitle on, the first and last stories being the best in the four parted tale. The second was the most average. Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Kalidas Jayaram and Simran have performed so well that Bollywood should be ashamed. The stories include all taboo in our Indian settings that are considered normal by us, saying 'Aise hi hota hai kya karen yaar' @ Its like that. Kalidas Jayaram has you crying on his performance as a trans, while Prakash Raj makes you choose between your family or honour.

Sex Education

Jo humko mili hi nahi (brown kids appreciating this comment)

This is a good show with a nice plot that you watch at your own risk. I binged the show without having any weird feelings (everyone is not Horny Karen!). I think I am not the only one out there who hates the wheelchair guy by the end of the show and I love Maeve Whiley, which makes me include this here. I will be up for the next season.

15. I haven't been listening to much music since 2019. However, I have a few good sounds that are my favourite. Here is the list that made my top five for so long, even though there are many others.

Que, Sera Sera by Doris Day

(recommended by Helly again) For cheering any bad moods and looking at life with hope.

Paarthene

A Tamil Song from the movie 'Mookuthi Amman' which I listen to as I type is a perfect score for those who are tired of listening to the usual. You can have the song's translation from Google. It shares the ideology similar to that of 'Mere Nishaan' from OMG.

Miss India Theme

This has been my ringtone for a month, and this is the gift the movie gave.

Bella Ciao

This catchy Spanish song is at the heart of every Berlin appreciating person.

For Aisha and Ek Zindagi

The former is from the movie 'The Sky is Pink' and the other from 'English Medium'. The second movie is worth watching too, only if Irfan's loss won't make you cry.

14. 2020 allowed me to be consistent with my art and experiment a lot with my art style (even though I don't necessarily have one). I have included more colours both in my life and my artworks. I have been into drawing and painting more than usual. I am not sure if I have improved or not; however, I have a few favourites:

Art, I produced

13. I have tried to be more consistent with my blog posts and Facebook page this year and I am sure my performance has been better than the previous years. I failed in the former one a bit. Nevertheless, I was good at keeping my Facebook page really active. I ended up making my official Instagram too. I will be stating the top posts that I admire ether due to the content in it or my efforts.

3.

Blogs that I enjoyed making are:

12. New youtube channels that I have come across that has made me smile. These people deserve all the popularity for the hard work they do.

Shruti Shiva: For poetic and artistic contents

Avanti Nagral: Music videos and about the general lifestyle of Indian as well as Americans

The Sanskrit Channel: if you are eager to learn about the old language and shlokas, this is the channel for you

Agatha Christie Dramatised: Audiobooks on the work of the famous British Author 'Agatha Christie'. These ones are designed for audible and are available for absolutely free.

Rahul Krishnan: This guy is an absolute gem, praised by many television actors for his flute skills. He has a rendition made on Belle Ciao which I love the most.

11. At the beginning of this year, I volunteered for the first time at an international conference. This was truly a feeling of taking over the stage and acting presentable for three consecutive days despite feeling low. I learnt to be more social than I actually am. As an ambivert, this experience provided me with growth opportunities. I realised how the actors and other people into the beauty industry must feel under the heavy makeup when they are going through a lot in person.

10. I have practised yoga for more and I have been consistent for nearly 215 days out of the 366, which isn't bad at all.

The next ten will be posted later. Keep looking out here and New Year greetings to everyone!
