Close thy outgoing faculties,

And hear the eternal Melody.

- Sant Kabir

Words I found relatable from the 'The One' PDF by Sandeep Maheshwari. I will link it, for the fact that it is for everyone who doesn't want to watch the previously mentioned video and are looking for some reading options. 'The One' pdf shows you all the words, our Veda, Gita, Quran, Bible and even Gurugranth Sahib were indicating about the internal sound.

But, before someone out there starts out war about 'there is one God, his name is this and this'. Yes, there is one God and he is not what you think he is. You won't find him anywhere outside but just here, everywhere and inside.

But, let us leave that for a while and discuss the next steps to meditation.

In the previous blog, I have mentioned the initial steps for meditating and that you would hear inner sounds, which will be a bit different for everyone.

I read this line

"This Sound develops through ten different aspects because of its manifestation through the different tubes of the body (Nadis); it sounds like thunder, the roaring of the sea, the jingling of bells, running water, the buzzing of bees, the twittering of sparrows, the

Vina, the whistle, or the sound of Shankha (Conch) until it finally becomes 'Hu' the most sacred of all sounds. This Sound 'Hu' is the beginning and end of all sounds, be they from man, bird, beast, or

thing.

- The Mysticism of Sound"

So, this is your ultimate goal.

But, those who haven't heard anything. Don't worry. Keep practising. Especially if you are inclined to have more thoughts and worries, the more time it would take for you to reach there.

All the people giving you packages and alternatives to make you do basic meditation and then advanced meditation is trying to achieve this. Don't fall for them. Just be consistent with your at-home practice.

So, to help you out. Let me guide you with my own experience.

  1. I have been trying to meditate for more than 2 years. On and off.

  2. I got consistent with it when the lockdown began. That means I practised since march and have been continuing till date, with hardly any offs.

  3. When I can't practice actively, I tend to do it while going off to sleep.

  4. So, in the month of August, precisely on 22nd, I finally heard the sound.

  5. I heard it when my thoughts were most inclined and I still hear it only when I calm my mind. I will answer the 'how' when I discuss the questions you guys asked (later).

  6. I still hear it on and off depending on how distracted I am. Sometimes it is so clear than I hear it even when I am not trying to meditate. And, I am truly elated with the experience.

  7. The more I try to force my ears to hear it, the less apparent it becomes.

  8. I tried taking the plugs off my ears, trying to hear it without them but I guess I am easily distracted by the outside noises that I can't do that. Yet.

  9. With earplugs on and soft focus, I can definitely hear it even with my eyes open now.

I don't want to discuss what I think or feel this is and how much I accept the thought of thinking about this as God or my true self but yes, this is the sound every true saint has spoken of, ever. And this is the true bliss. When you hear it, you can sit there for minutes or even hours without getting bored because you are so curious about where it is coming from, (inside, outside etc) that you can't take off your focus from it.

Let's now discuss some of the questions you guys were having:

•The biggest question: Is thinking nothing meditation?

No. A big no. And a resounding no. You can't think nothing. Thoughts in your mind can be less or more, depending on your mental state. But, you can't think nothing. The moment you are like 'wow it is empty' that itself is a 'thought'. Yes, that is a mind paradox.

So, what does meditation even mean?

First. To be okay with your thoughts. Positive. Negative. Without going into active thinking, that is meditation (I have talked about this in my previous blog).

•How to do it?

Please read my previous blog. ♥ Linked down below.

•How to prevent thoughts from becoming my active thinking?

This was genuinely the first question I had in my mind as well. The guides, the help books and everything around made it sound so easy but it felt so difficult up until now. Because we often don't have anything to look forward to when we sit down to meditate and also because that is the only place where we stop in our life and sit alone. Especially if you are an overthinker or extrovert, this will be too hard. I am the former.

Then, how do I deal with it?

For instance, I have a thought, per se, about my work, 'My blog has 2 likes only'. Okay. Either I can start my marathon with 'Oh no', 'I am a failure' etc and etc. Or I can observe. How do I do that?

Just say inside 'Let's see whats next.' as if you are watching an old projector playing photographs just like in the movie 'IT' but just don't let it turn into 'Pennywise'. As soon as you start observing, you notice the cycle stop and this only gets better with practice. Practice sitting down, doing it actively and slowly you can do it off the mat as well ♥

•For how long should I be meditating?

I practice only for 5-15 mins if its active meditation. And have gone till 30 if I am having some more issues that need clarity. In conclusion, it varies but IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER, 10 mins is more than enough. Starting with even 5 per day is better than nothing.
