Facts everyone should know about Freelancing

"Wow, you are your boss. Isn't that freeing?" Well, technically no. It is not.

Wait, hang on! Before you decide to quit on me, let us understand why I said that by diving deep into the 'Freelancing' world.

1. Let us start with the basics! "There is nothing that is offered for free"

ree

Freelancing is a way of offering one's service to a party in need in return for 'monetary' value, not a scholarship, not a course and not a freebie gift.

Imagine you being hired by a company and instead of a paycheck, they handle you two days leave. Can you survive that or is it even fair?

No. Absolutely not. You would quit the job and I wish everyone quit such clients or prospects as soon as they see these signs.

2. I am my own boss and that is courageous yet scary

ree

Of course, when people see business or service-based industry, their instant reaction is:

"Oh, it must be amazing to work for yourself and not having to be told what to do".

Well, you are only looking at the positives. When I am my boss, I am not just the CEO. I have to be responsible enough to be the employee, manager, and sometimes even the peon. Don't get me wrong, but it is all fun and games until you absolutely have to sit down and do everything yourself.

Unless you love what you do, you can not do it. And, I am dead-serious about this. This blog as of now gives me no monetary benefits, yet I am consistent not for the $ but for the sake of it. I plan the contents, build graphics, market them and of course, write it.

3. Time is money

ree

The more time I save, the more projects I can work on, and the more money I make. Both family and people outside of the immediate circle to freelancers have to understand,

"We are not after money, we are asking for what we deserve".

For a five-hundred word, a well-researched article that has no plagiarism, it takes me approximately at least 30-40 minutes and that is after years of writing.

So, if I am asking money for extra hours of consultation or 1rpw word, I am not trying to rob you. I am only trying to live decently as a human.

When we quote a price for a product/service in a small business, it includes the amount of time that went into its making+other charges and not to forget in this world the amount of money that goes into the water, like rent, electricity, internet bill, and other expenses.

In a Facebook chat with a fellow "upcoming writer" (I wish he becomes one so he understands), who wanted my help, I realised, people are not up for spending on themselves, in other words, 'investing' in themselves and trust me, I have been there. But, please consider this, you are not ready to spend a bare minimum amount for yourself, how will a client trust you enough to pay you?

He went ahead to say, I along with everyone are just behind money, clearly when I gave him an offer for a one-on-one 15 to 30-minutes free consultation call. And trust me, in that amount of time, I can make a donkey write a short poem.

4. Learning

ree

When you offer a service, you are in competition with others. You have to market yourself in such a way that you appear better. In this ever-changing world, those who are weak are not left behind, instead, those who stop learning are left behind.

I can be weak and a slow-paced tortoise, but I will still make more money eventually than a rabbit who thinks he knows it all.

Now, I hope that the first statement made a lot more sense than it did earlier. See you all next Saturday at 7:30 PM ( a schedule for July)!

Celebrating a mini-win here, my blog views have increased this previous month. Thank you to those who have stayed since long and welcome, to those who have recently joined.
